World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.
Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, dependent on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.
It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell get more info , players can compare the item level. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it's capable of causing. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor is possible using the item level.
On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems found in sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
It's not the only factor that affects the value of an item. The level of the area where the item dropped can also alter its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher value.
Item Stats
The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey, for example, will only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.
Another method to alter the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to provide items with extra damage or special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to make them unique by naming them.
Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges just like the other rerolling methods.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the range, unless it's a unique item or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a chance to acquire better gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in early game runs as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.
Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that causes damage by 5percent. These items can be bought in the shop or made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it fails.
The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
